DENIS KOZHUKHIN, piano

Denis Kozhukhin has won the Vendome Prize 2009, one of the 'most prestigious world piano competitions'.

Born in 1986, Russia, Denis Kozhukhin began to learn music with his parents at 4 and in Zhavoronok School at 6. He started to study in Balakirev School Natalia Fish at 8 to get a diplom with honor at 14.

In 2000-2007 he studied in the Queen Sofia High Music School of Madrid with Dmitri Bashkirov and Claude Martinez- Menher. He had masterclasses also with Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Zakar Bron, Bruno Canino, Gerard Causse, Claude Franck, Peter Frankl, Ralf Gothoni, Christian Ivaldi, Zoltan Kocsis, Stephan Kovacevich, Vitali Margulis, Menahem Pressler, Natalia Schahovskaya, Andreas Staier, Fou Ts'ong, Rosalyn Tureck, Elisso Virsaladze, among others. During these years he recieved a diploma with honor by the Queen Sofia herself as a best student and twice as the best chamber music group with his Cervantes Trio, which recorded a CD of Turina Trio (Sony special edition Queen Sofia High Music School). He is now still under Dmitri Bashkirov's protection and follows classes in the superior cycle of chamber music with his Cervantes Trio in the Queen Sofia Music School with professors such as Ralph Gothóni. He is also selected in the very few young pianists of the International Academy Lake Como in Italy to be supported by a few great masters of our time.

His prizes of International Piano Competitions already include: 1st Prize in Vendome Prize 2009 in Lisbon, 3rd Prize in Leeds International Piano Competition, Alicia de Larrocha (Grand Prix, Andorra), Reuters Foundation Price (Verbier Festival & Academy), "In Svyatoslav Richter´s Memory" 1997 (Grand Prix, France), Tortona 1996 (Gran Prix, Italia). Denis is is granted with a scholarship that BSI gives to support talented young musicians.

Denis Kozhukhin has been invited in festivals such as Progetto Martha Argerich (Lugano), Verbier Festival & Academy, A. Saharov Festival (75th anniversary of M. Rostropovich, N. Novgorod), Paloma O´Shea Summer Festival (Santander), Ruhr Klavier Festival in Germany, Louvre Auditorium Series (Paris), Prestige Series (New York), Paul Lens's concert series (Munich)... and regularly performs solo recitals and chamber music concerts in Spain, Germany, France, Sweden, UK, USA, Portugal, Russia, Bielorussia, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Dominican Republic, Italy, Lithuania, Turkey... He already played with the Halle Orchestra (Mark Elder), the Gulbenkian Orchestra (George Pehlivanian), the Nizhni Novgorod Philharmonic Orchestra (Evgueny Bushkov)...

His next engagements include several concerts in the Bouffes du Nord in Paris, Lille Piano Festival, Chopin Festival in Poland, Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, Louvre Auditorium (integrale Liszt Etudes Transcendantes & duo concert with Jakob Koranyi), Minsk Orchestra conducted by Evgueny Bushkov (Chopin 2), the Hamburger Symphoniker conducted by Jeffrey Tate (Brahms 1), the Hungarian National Philharmonic conducted by Zoltan Kocsis in Budapest & Szeged (Prokofiev 2)...

Denis Kozhukhin's repertoire as a solist and as a chamber music player is huge and impressive for his age. His passion for the whole repertoire and capacity to learn very fast and play with already so much maturity are absolutely exceptional.

I have had the pleasure to work with him in chamber music at the Escuela Superior Reina Sofia in Madrid and to hear Mr Kozhukhin's interpretations has been most inspiring.
